FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK

Although Mother’s Day dates back to the mid 1850’s , it was not until the early nineteen hundreds that Mother’s Day became a national day, recognizing Mothers. Anna Jarvis, who was a Methodist, began her push for a day honoring our mothers. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May a national day as “Mother’s Day”. This coming Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day and is a time when we not only honor our mothers who are living, but giving thanks for the memory of those who are gone. I hope each of you will show your mother just how much she means to you. Like-wise, pause to give thanks for the memory of your mother who has gone on. May you have a wonderful Mother’s Day and remember we love you. This is a time in the North Georgia Conference that we give to the Wesley Homes. Without your support, many of our elderly could not afford to stay in this wonderful facility. Please give generously to this worthy cause in honor of Mother.

I Remember Mama

Years ago I watched a movie entitled `I Remember Mama` in which the narrator chronicled the adventures of her mother--an immigrant from Europe. As I reflect on that movie, I also reflect on memories of my own mother. One of my earliest memories of mama is waking up to the smells of a simple breakfast of homemade biscuits, fried fatback, gravy, and homemade jelly and jam. I remember my mama being compassionate, caring, and always putting others first. As you celebrate this Mother’s Day, how does your family see you? Do they see a mother devoted to God and his work, or do they see someone totally absorbed in herself and her desires ? May each of us as mothers examine ourselves during this Mother’s Day season and strive to put others first, love unconditionally, and always live a life pleasing to God. then when the Psalmist asks, “who can find a virtuous woman?” our families can say ’we have’. Happy and blessed Mother’s Day to each of you mothers! You are one of God’s sweetest and greatest creations.

Mother's Day Supper
Saturday May 7th at 6:00 We ask that everyone would bring a covered dish.

WHAT AM I THINKING

Dear God, I have a friend whom I love very much, or did. She thinks she is such a good friend, but I told her things that I did not want told. Then she gets mad at me and of course what does she do? She goes and tells everybody. I would never do her that way. I will never forgive her for this.

WHAT GOD MIGHT THINK

My child, I wish people would tell their friends about me. But, don’t you remember, that I have had people to lie about me, had a disciple who said he did not know me. There was a thief who insulted me, and soldiers who mocked me and took my clothes. I was beaten and was crucified. I forgave them and you must do the same. Bible Colossians 3:13“ Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievance you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you”. Luke 17:3“ So watch yourselves, if you brother sins, rebuke him, if he repents, forgive him”.

WHAT AM I THINKING

God, I am going on vacation, been years since I have taken the family anywhere. See you when I get back.

WHAT GOD MIGHT THINK

My child, I want to go. I don’t take up any room and I don’t eat and don’t ask “are we there yet”. Remember the big truck that almost ran you off the road? I was there. Remember when you had a flat tire? I was the one who sent help. Don’t forget Sunday, My Holy Day. You

know there are televisions, radios, and lots of churches everywhere. So, get the family together and listen to my word, sing my praises and glorify my name. See I am a good traveler too. BIBLE Exodus 33:14 And He said “My presence will go with you and I will give you rest.”Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

JOKE OF THE MONTH

The elderly pastor was searching his closet of his collar before church one Sunday morning. In the back of the closet, he found a small box containing 3 eggs and 100 $1 bills. He called his wife into the closet to ask her about the box and its contents. Embarrassed, she admitted having hidden the box there for their entire 30 years of marriage. Disappointed and hurt, the pastor asked “WHY”?The wife replied that she hadn’t wanted to hurt his feelings. He asked her how the box would hurt his feelings. She said that every time during their marriage that he had delivered a poor sermon, she had placed an egg in the box. The pastor felt that 3 poor sermons in 30 years was certainly nothing to feel bad about, so he asked her what the $100 was for. She replied, “ Each time I got a dozen eggs, I sold them to the neighbors for $1.”
